Speaker Bio

Jon Jantz has a lifelong love of mountains & wild places.

He spent what seemed at the time like too many years studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, specializing in electromagnetics and researching the last frontier of the electromagnetic spectrum, terahertz waves. He has BSEE and MSEE degrees from the University of Washington.

A winding path led him into Transportation Electrification for the past 10+ years, where he is a subject matter expert on Electric Vehicles and the most cost-effective strategies to integrate higher amounts of intermittent renewable energy onto the grid.

He spends his time working with utilities, non-profits and the private sector on Transportation Electrification strategies as well as smart grid deployments, and Beneficial Electrification efforts to help consumers save money, reduce air pollution and provide economic stimulus to rural and underserved communities.

You can often find him in the North Cascades or at times in the wild mountains of British Columbia, Alaska, Central Asia or Patagonia.

On an expedition in the Yukon, he was one of the last humans to walk out a river which disappeared while he was out on the icecap, the first modern case of river piracy in North America due to glacial recession.

This heightened his desire to help accelerate our efforts to transition to renewable energy generation and consumption. He believes we can all make meaningful impacts towards this transition
